I have been around dA for quite a long time. I changed more than 4 accounts by now, and my experience with this site grew to a point of pure sadness.
While nothing negative happened to me past year or so, I learned few things over that time.Try as much as you can, but this is not a site about Art
Hold your horses. I'm not saying everyone on this site can't draw/paint/whatever they do.
I'm saying that 90% of site's content or more, it not Art in the meaning of "Art".
It's either drawing for personal enjoyment that grew into asking money for "My Art", or it's full of porn.
Very few of the artists that were able to stick around for so long are those that push their drawing into the next level, so called "Art".
Rest of them, are just blank pictures, without any idea, meaning, or pose. It's on the internet? Easy to steal.
Another big problem. People stealing, reselling and etc. This is an onging problem ever since the internet exists, but it's getting out of hand more than ever. "You don't like my Art? Go away, nobody cares about your opinion anyway. I'm the best if I say so."
Again, I'm going a bit far with that sentance (sometimes not even). But ego is another big no no that's been circling around this site (or any other website about digital, or any other art that let's anyone post). These people never were and never will be artists to their true meaning. There is no point in following these at any time and misleading youngsters this way is just sad and cruel. So what is your problem? Where are you going with all this?
I'm saying that even I couldn't tell the difference between real art and what is just playing to be art.
Don't flush yourself in every single picture you see on the internet. Try to learn difference between real art and fancy drawing. See what you like, think about it, learn why you like that picture, let it inspire you and move on to another. Compare famous artist with not so notorious one even when you think they have same ammount of skill and try to find what is the difference between the two. What happened to your Watchlist?
As I mentioned, nothing personal. I decided to get things into a order and only favourite and watch those who inspire me, or I find them skillful in a way I'm not. And when I decide I don't feel these emotions about the pictures or artists anymore, I'll move on.
This doesn't mean everybody I was watching and were my friends are left behind me. I still like my friends no matter waht kind of art does they make. If you'reone of them, feel free to contact me anytime. I'll be here for you, as I always have been.
-> facebook is for school and family mostly
-> discord is for any friend of mine, feel free to note me about it
-> email is also a possibility if you feel like it
Overall, it's yet another comeback for this site.
And honestly, if it wont last.
It's the last.
